Does CBD work for Arthritis?
The Arthritis Foundation conducted a survey which showed that CBD (cannabidiol) helps with Arthritis pain. But is there medical evidence to show that CBD really helps with Arthritis? Probably not.
First, the Arthritis Foundation isĀ an advocacy group, not a medical society like the American College of Rheumatology. Secondly, results from surveys do not provide strong medical evidence like published evidence from clinical trials.
So why do patients say CBD works for their arthritis? First, CBD does have some anti-inflammatory effects in animal data. Second, topical CBD creams may contain pain relievers such as menthol, an ingredient which is found in Icy Hot.
For now, continue to use the medications prescribed by your doctor for Arthritis. If you want to try CBD, topical CBD creams are probably okay. Please first ask your doctor before taking CBD you ingest (like CBD oil or capsules) as it may interact with the medications you are taking for Arthritis.
