How to Shop for the Best Omega-3 Fish Oil
I want to share two helpful tips when shopping for good quality Fish Oil.
*Disclaimer: Please first consult your doctor to see if omega-3 Fish Oil is right for you.
Tip #1: Look for the “USP Logo”
The USP logo means that your Fish Oil contains exactly what it says on the label and is not full of contaminants. Manufacturers with this logo have undergone rigorous lab testing to ensure their products are of good quality. For more information about USP, go to:
https://www.usp.org/frequently-asked-questions/usp-verification-services
Tip #2: Look for the amount of EPA and DHA on the label.
Many Fish Oil bottles will tell you the total amount of Fish Oil rather than the total amount of Omega-3 in the bottle. For example, this Fish Oil bottle contains 1400mg of Fish Oil, but only 980mg of Omega-3.
The key is the look for the amount of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in the bottle.
The Omega-3 content is the amount of DHA plus EPA. I made an easy equation for you:
Total Omega-3 = DHA + EPA
I personally take Nature’s Bounty Fish Oil. It is easy to swallow and there is no fishy taste. First ask your doctor what dose is right for you. You can purchase it from Amazon here:
